Application Requirements
Due to changes in the Building Legislation the City’s web pages relating to building related applications is currently under construction. Building Permit Application forms and further information can be found at the Department of Commerce – Building Commission website

Please ensure your application is entirely complete to avoid delays. It is essential that the plans submitted to us comply with the BCA and Residential Design Codes.
The application for a building licence requires the following information:
- Two copies of a site plan drawn to a scale of not less than 1:200;
- The site plans must be fully dimensioned and all boundary clearances must be shown, with a datum and contours at intervals of 500mm;
- The finished floor level of the dwelling and garage/carport must be indicated with a datum point taken from the kerb at the centre of the driveway crossover;
- If the site rises or drops extensively from the road level, the finished garage/carport floor levels must comply with the City’s driveway gradient requirements. Copies of the gradient tables are available on request;
- Two copies of working drawings drawn to a scale of not less than 1:100 including elevations, a cross section of the building and floor plans;
- Two copies of original details signed by the design engineer in the following situations - where the design of the dwelling incorporates large rooms that require strutting beams, bulkheads, corner windows, large openings, suspended floors and footings, or any other feature requiring special treatment;
- Two copies of specifications with a completed addendum indicating the types of materials to be used;
- Smoke alarms;
- Termite details;
- A completed Building Licence Application Form (Form 2);
- The application form must indicate the contract value and the name and registration number of the builder. The original signature of the builder must be on the completed application form;
- If you intend to construct the house yourself, or if the construction is an addition or alteration exceeding $20,000 in estimated value, a statutory declaration must be completed and submitted to the Builders’ Registration Board with an application fee of $126.00;
- All fees are payable upon lodgement of the building application.
