Commercial Vehicle Parking
Parking Local Law (1998)
This section of the local law has recently been amended to give greater flexibility to people with commercial vehicles.
A commercial vehicle is defined as:
- a motor vehicle constructed for the conveyance of goods, merchandise or materials used in trade, business, industry or work whatsoever; or
- a vehicle that has been fitted or adapted for the conveyance of goods, merchandise or materials and is used for that purpose.
During the hours of 7.00am to 6.00pm daily, commercial vehicles may be parked on the road or a verge for a period not exceeding three hours. After this time the vehicle must be moved to another location or placed on private property*.
It is important to note that the provisions for verge parking also apply to this section of the local law and permission must first be obtained from the occupier of the property before a vehicle can lawfully park on the adjacent verge.
These provisions of the Parking Local Law (1998) are not just restricted to commercial vehicles but also apply to the following types of vehicles:
- caravans
- omnibus
- semi-trailer
- tow trucks
- tractors
- trailers
*The parking/housing of some large vehicles on residential private property overnight may not be permitted under the City’s Town Planning Scheme.
