What is an election sign?
An election sign is one encouraging a person to vote for a particular political candidate.
Are there any rules associated with the placement of election signs?
The City allows some flexibility with election signage:
- One election sign no bigger than 0.75 square metres can be erected on private property.
- A corner property can have two election signs no bigger than 0.75 square metres.
- Election signs can not be erected on a private property more than 28 days before the election and must be removed within seven days of the election.
- On the election day election signs and posters each no bigger than 0.55 square metres can be erected at the place of the election or rally.
The City prohibits:
- The erection of election signs in a thoroughfare or road reserve.
- Signs erected in places that cause sight obstructions.
- Signs erected on power poles, trees, shrubs or plants.
