Better Beginnings
Better Beginnings is a state wide family literacy program promoting reading and the love of books from an early age. It has been developed by the State Library of Western Australia, and aims to support parents as their children's first teacher.
We believe it's never too early to start reading to your baby. Sharing a love of reading, rhyming, singing and talking with your baby is one of the best things you can do to give your baby a head start in life.
Free Better Beginnings Reading Kit
As part of the Better Beginnings program, parents with new born babies can collect their free Better Beginnings reading kit from their local City of Joondalup library or from their Community Child Health Nurse.
The Better Beginnings free reading kit includes:
- A free gift board book for your baby from your local council
- A nursery rhyme frieze and a BB poster
- A list of first books for babies and toddlers
- A brochure with tips for enjoying reading with your baby
- Information about participating in wonderful library activities such as Baby Rhyme Time, Parent Baby Workshops and Storytime.
Better Beginnings Plus
Better Beginnings Plus, is an exciting extension to the Better Beginnings program. The newborn babies, whose families received free reading kits, are now ready to receive the next reading pack. The packs are being delivered to all local Kindy and Preprimary classes in the City of Joondalup, and include a free gift picture book.
