Banners in the Terrace
Every year during Local Government Week, schools within the City are invited to enter an art competition to design a banner to represent the City of Joondalup.
- Prizes are awarded to the winning artist, their school and the runners-up
- This is an opportunity to assist in meeting Art in Society Outcomes while learning about Local Government
- The competition offers the chance to exhibit to the whole school, the local community and wider community if the design is selected to be on display in St Georges Terrace, Perth
- Individual students, partners or groups can contribute to the designs
- The winning design, as chosen by the City of Joondalup, will be transferred to a 3.4m x 1.5m banner and will fly in St Georges Terrace leading up to and during Local Government Week. The banner will be on display with up to 140 other WA local government banners and

In 2011, the Judges selected the entry from the Year 9 Visual Arts students at St Stephen's School, Duncraig to represent the City. The designs from individual students at Springfield Primary School, Sacred Heart College and Lake Joondalup Baptist College-Primary were also awarded prizes.
Road Safety Art Competition
The City runs the School Road Safety Art Competition, which raises awareness of this important issue by asking students to create A3 artworks on specific road safety themes.
The competition runs during term three of the school calendar and is open to both primary and high school students. A prize giving ceremony is conducted for the winners of the various categories.

Mural Arts Program
The Mural Arts Program offers funding for your class or group to participate in the creation of a mural on a council facility. The program offers schools the opportunity to contribute to community amenities and creates of a sense of place whilst promoting the City as a cultural destination.

- Class groups are encouraged to apply to work with a professional artist to design and create their own mural

Community Art Exhibition
The City of Joondalup 2012 Community Art Exhibition has been running annually since 1998, and is a showcase event for local artists. The exhibition welcomes all media and age groups and there is a great array of prizes to be won. The exhibition is open to residents of the City of Joondalup or current members of an incorporated, non-profit visual arts association, within the City of Joondalup.
- The exhibition, on display at Lakeside Joondalup Shopping City in June, is a great opportunity for school students to participate in a public exhibition
- All entrants will receive an invitation for themselves and a guardian to attend the opening night and will be considered for a special student award
- Free education tours are available for class groups

Invitation Art Award
The City of Joondalup 2012 Invitation Art Award showcases challenging Western Australian art at its very best. It is this commitment to contemporary art that elevates the Invitation Art Award as a prestigious and recognised exhibition that is a leader in its field. The award recognises the artistic, creative and innovative skills of leading Western Australian contemporary artists.
Expose your art students to some of Western Australia’s most prominent professional artists through a guided tour from the City’s Visual Arts Officer. The exhibition is held at Lakeside Joondalup Shopping City in October each year and pre-booking for guided tours is essential.
