Did you know that:

- Duncraig and Kingsley are the suburbs with the highest number of volunteers in Joondalup?
- over 50,000 Joondalup residents were born outside Australia and more than 12,000 speak a language other than English?
The City of Joondalup uses the data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics census to produce its online Community Profile and Community Atlas. These services include interesting profiles for each of the 22 suburbs of Joondalup and contain information, figures, graphs and maps. Students are encouraged to use these to add value to school assignments and also to get a statistical “snapshot” of the City of Joondalup.
The City sponsors the Constable Care Child Safety Foundation to provide a life skills program to primary school students within the City. Dynamic theatre and puppetry presentations cover the three broad areas of protective education, crime prevention and respect for yourself and others. Further details and booking information are available from the Constable Care website or phone 9272 0000.
The Safety House program is also sponsored by the City as a part of our commitment to support community safety in local areas. For more details please see the Safety House website.
The WA Police makes available Goodbye Graffiti educational resources for schools. The WA Police have developed these resources in consultation with Department of Education and Training, Association of Independent Schools of Western Australia and Catholic Education. The teaching resources have been developed for delivery by teachers to students in years 1-10.
The resources educate young people on the consequences of graffiti vandalism to themselves and the wider community, with the goal to prevent future offending through education. The City hopes that local schools may find these resources useful in managing graffiti in local areas.
The City is committed to improving road safety and parking problems around schools. In order to achieve this objective, the City conducts, supports and promotes various road safety initiatives:
- The City’s Traffic Team conducts school visits, on request, to discuss road safety problems with Principals and P&C Committee members. The Team assesses the road safety issues and provides advice on potential solutions
- The City encourages schools to utilise the WA Local Government Association’s ‘Road Safety Around Schools’ publication
- The School Drug Education and Road Aware program produces Curriculum Framework resources, such as ‘Challenges and Choices’ and ‘Getting it together: A whole-school approach to road safety education’, which are essential for classroom learning about road safety
The City’s Road Safety Officer can also provide assistance to your school through the following:
- Road safety contacts for educational materials or presentations
- Information about Safe Routes to School – painting blue footprints and red stop signs on paths
- Help launching or re-launching the ‘Kiss and Drive’
- Informal infringements for parents parking in ‘No parking’ zones or other bad driver behaviour
- Entry into the City’s School Road Safety Art Competition which is run during term three
- Community road safety programs such as the ‘Community Safe Speed Promise’ and ‘Please Slow Down Consider Our Kids’ bin stickers.
