Visual Arts
The City of Joondalup supports Western Australian art and artists through an annual arts program. The City of Joondalup views an active arts program as an investment in promoting the City as a cultural destination. Some of the exciting visual arts events and programs include:
The City adopts a multi-criteria approach to invest in its art collection, acquisitions and events. This approach ensures that the collection, acquisitions and events include contemporary art and art demonstrating local content and context.
The City's current public art collection consists of 35 works of Public Art including mosaics, murals, sculptures, street bollards, architectural details and street furniture.
The City of Joondalup’s Invitation Art Award is an annual exhibition which brings together a diverse selection of Western Australian leading contemporary artists and provides members of the public with access to thought provoking artworks.
The Community Art Exhibition is open to artists based in the City of Joondalup. It offers a variety of non-acquisitive awards each year such as the Most Outstanding Artwork award, media specific categories and a variety of themed awards with specific criteria.
The City also manages a Mural Arts Program. Murals are large-scale artworks, often outdoor paintings or installations, which may cover an outdoor wall or other public infrastructure to create local and regional landmarks.
The blend(er) Gallery, is a joint venture between the City and the Joondalup Community Arts Association which regularly offers workshops and exciting opportunities for artists and art enthusiasts.
