The City of Joondalup Community Art Exhibition has been running annually since 1998, and is the premier showcase event for local artists.
The Community Art Exhibition offers awards in a number of different categories in order to distribute prizes to a broad range of art forms. A judging panel will award prizes to artworks in each of the media and nominated categories as well as selecting the ‘Most Outstanding Work’. The panel’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
Prize categories selected by judging panel are as follows:
- Most Outstanding Work $1500
- Media Categories $1000 each: Works on Paper, Painting, Sculpture, Photo media and Textiles
Awards
Artists are also able to nominate their work for the categories of Student Award and the Celebrating Joondalup Award.
Celebrating Joondalup Award $500
This prize will be awarded to a work that is based on Joondalup content or context. This is a voluntary category and any work nominated for the award category will be judged on artistic merit and by the extent to which it relates to and represents the City of Joondalup. If you nominate for this category you must outline on the Artwork Details Form how your work relates to the City of Joondalup.
Artist in Focus Award $500
The Artist in Focus Award supports artistic development with a solo exhibition at blend(er) gallery, Joondalup, and an additional $500 cash prize. The exhibition dates will be arranged with the winning artist to coincide with the blend(er)’s annual program. This is a voluntary category and any work nominated for the award category will be judged on artistic merit. All artists are eligible to enter and it will not affect their eligibility for any other category. The winner of this award is committed to delivering an exhibition at blend(er) gallery.
Student Award $250
Student entries are eligible to win any of the above mentioned categories. An outstanding student entry will also be eligible for the student award. Students must be currently studying at secondary school
Popular Choice Award $500
Viewers of the exhibition can vote for their favourite artwork (one entry only per viewer) by placing an entry in the ballot box. The artwork which receives the most nominations at the close of the exhibition will be awarded a prize. Nominations start at the exhibition opening and end at 5.00pm, Wednesday 22 June 2012.
Conditions of Entry
- The exhibition is open to residents of the City of Joondalup or current members of an incorporated, non-profit visual arts association, within the City of Joondalup
- The medium and size of the artwork must be: 2-Dimensional work must not exceed 100cm high x 100cm wide (this includes frame) and 3-Dimensional work must not exceed 200cm high x 200cm wide x 200cm deep (must provide own plinth or suitable display)
- For screen based work, organisation of monitors and DVD players is the responsibility of entrants
- Artworks must not exceed 20kg in weight. Please note this size will be strictly adhered to, any work over this specified size will not be accepted
- Entries must be of original creation/ design by the exhibiting artist and not entered into any other exhibitions prior to this event.

Artist Development Talks
Informal events will be held to provoke discussion and alternative insights into artistic practice through a series of multi-media presentations by local artists and industry professionals. Come along and contribute. Our 2012 program will be available soon.
