Council Meetings

All members of the community have a legislative right to ask questions at Council meetings and the City encourages public participation in its decision-making process.

To help members of the public participate, and enhance relationships with its community, the Council allows public questions to be asked and public statements to be made at Council meetings and briefing sessions (that are open to the public).

Council meeting - public question time

Members of the public should lodge questions in writing by 9.00am the Monday prior to the Council meeting to council.questions@joondalup.wa.gov.au

Answers to questions received within that timeframe will, where practicable, be provided in hard copy at the Council.

If you require the assistance of an AUSLAN interpreter to participate in a Council meeting or would like to have your question or answer translated into a language other than English, please contact the City on 9400 4952 for assistance.

Full details regarding the procedures of Council Meetings are attached.

Listen Online

You can listen live to every Council meeting from 7.00pm to the end of the session.

Due to technical disruptions, the Council Meeting at 12.00noon on 18 August cannot be listened to online. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Briefing sessions

Briefing Sessions involve Elected Members, staff, and external advisors (where appropriate) and are open to the public.

They provide the opportunity for Elected Members to be equally informed and seek additional information on matters prior to the presentation of such matters to the next Ordinary meeting of Council for formal consideration and decision.

Members of the public are able to ask questions. All questions should be lodged in writing via email to council.questions@joondalup.wa.gov.au  by close of business on the Monday prior to the briefing session.

Answers to questions received within that timeframe will be provided, where practicable, in hard copy at the briefing session.

Full details regarding the procedures of Briefing Sessions are attached.

Deputations

Council conduct an informal session prior to the Briefing Session where members of the public may present deputations by appointment only.

A time period of fifteen (15) minutes is set-aside for each deputation, with five (5) minutes for Elected members’ questions. Deputation sessions are open to the public.

Any member of the public may request to make a deputation on a matter contained in the briefing session agenda. Requests for deputations must be submitted by 4.00pm the Monday prior to the briefing session.
