Holiday Alert Service
City Watch provides a holiday alert service, whereby officers monitor your property while you are away and report anything they consider suspicious to your nominated contact person or to the police if necessary.
You can register your details with City Watch by phoning 1300 655 860, or alternatively complete the Holiday Alert Form.
Tips to keep your home safe while you are away
- Register your details with your local police station and inform them that your house will be vacant so that they know how to contact in case of an emergency
- Advise your neighbours of the duration of your absence and provide them with contact details for you and/or a family member that they can contact if required
- Organise for your mail and any advertising material to be collected daily or arrange for a redirection through your local Australia Post agency
- Temporarily cancel your paper delivery or if you will only be away for a short time, arrange for someone to collect it daily
- Ask you neighbour to put your rubbish bin out on bin collection day and put it away once it has been emptied
- Organise for a neighbour to park their vehicle in your driveway from time to time
- Set lights and perhaps a radio on timers to give the impression that someone is at home during the day and evening.
- Check your garden reticulation for faults and correct watering days to avoid Water Corporation infringement notices
- Organise for a neighbour or family member to check the rear of your property on a regular basis to make sure everything is secure
- Disconnect the electrical supply on radio controlled or electronic garage doors and engage manual locks instead
- Don’t leave house keys concealed inside or outside the house. Leave them with a trusted friend or neighbour
- Arrange for someone to cut your lawn and water your garden
- Turn down the ringing volume on your telephone
