Coastal Zone

The City is home to approximately 17km of popular coastline.
Many recreational activities occur daily on the land surrounding this coastline, which consequently impact on the ocean’s water quality.
It is the City’s responsibility to manage and control these activities, ensuring the ocean bodies are sufficiently protected from the negative external impacts.

Discover the unique plants and animals that inhabit our coastline. Eleven new trail signs have been installed on the coastal pathway from Marmion to Burns Beach to provide information to visitors on the native flora, fauna and history of the area.
The Adopt a Coastline program gives students the opportunity to take part in an environmental project involving plant identification, dune rejuvenation and protection of our fragile coastline.
