To find out the answers to these questions and more, come and explore Neil Hawkins Park and visit the new signage developed to educate visitors on the native flora and fauna and their traditional uses by Nyungar people.
The City of Joondalup received partial funding from the Department of Environment and Conservation to assist with installing interpretive signage at Neil Hawkins Park, Joondalup.
The publication, Plants and People in Mooro Country - Nyungar Plant Use in Yellagonga Regional Park, has formed the basis for the signage.

Yellagonga Interpretive Signage Wins WA Heritage Award
The City of Joondalup’s Yellagonga Interpretive Signage Project at Neil Hawkins Park has been recognised at the 2011 WA Heritage Awards, winning the Outstanding Interpretation Project That Enhances a Place category.
The WA Heritage Awards recognise outstanding commitment and contribution to heritage conservation and interpretation in Western Australia.
The Awards honour individuals and organisations whose work has resulted in significant achievements in the promotion and conservation of cultural heritage.
The Yellagonga Interpretive Signage Project raises awareness within the community of the environmental, cultural and heritage values of the Yellagonga Regional Park, which is one of the City’s most beautiful natural areas and a popular tourist attraction.
The judges said that the Yellagonga Signage Project is an outstanding multilayered project that encompasses all aspects of heritage. This project focuses on our sense of place in an environment that has minimal European built history.
