Street Parking
Parking Local Law 1998
There are several different prohibited or restricted activities that may occur in the City's streets. The Western Australian Road Traffic Code 2000 details many of these activities as offences mainly for safety reasons. They are also included in the City’s Parking Local Law 1998
Parking near schools
Parking restrictions often apply in streets adjacent to schools. Signs indicating the restrictions are placed around schools to enhance the safety and protection of children. These restrictions usually apply during the times that children are being dropped off and picked up, when parking is at a premium.
Verge parking
Consent must be obtained from the owner or occupier of land or property before a person may drive, park, or stand a vehicle on the verge adjacent to that land.
If consent has not been given by the owner or occupier, they are entitled to report this to Ranger Services and, ideally, should provide details such as; the make, model, colour and registration of the vehicle if possible.
Sale of vehicles
Advertising a vehicle for sale in part of the road reserve is an offence under the City's Parking Local Law and Road Traffic Code 2000.
Many people are unaware of this restriction when they place their vehicle for the purposes of advertising on the verge or median strip of a road reserve.
Parking or standing a vehicle facing the wrong way
For safety reasons, when parking a vehicle on a road, the vehicle must be parked facing in the same direction as the traffic flow.
If the vehicle has been parked against oncoming traffic this is an offence under the City's Parking Local Law and the Road Traffic Code.
Parking on median strips
Parking vehicles on median strips is not permitted under the City's Parking Local Law and the Road Traffic Code 2000.
Median strips are used to divide traffic and enhance safety on busy and significant roads and are therefore not suitable as parking spaces.
