City of Joondalup Business Forum – A Vision for Joondalup
10/10/2011 5:13:27 PM
The City of Joondalup’s recent Business Forum, A Vision for Joondalup attracted over 90 local business leaders and key City stakeholders.
Former Premier, the Hon Richard Court AC was the keynote speaker and he spoke about Joondalup being regarded nationally and internationally as a fine example of how to develop a regional sustainable City.
Mr Court said Joondalup should focus on improving its strengths over the next decade and that local businesses should take advantage of the global shift of economic growth from the US and Europe to Asia.
Representatives of key stakeholders including the Department of Planning, Edith Cowan University, Joondalup Health Campus, Landcorp, Lend Lease, Department of Housing, WA Police Service, and West Coast Institute of Training spoke about their plans for growth and development over the next 10 years.
All of the key stakeholders spoke about plans for expansions, which would create employment opportunities – collectively their plans amount to a significant contribution to Joondalup becoming a vibrant, sustainable and innovative City of the future.
Joondalup chief executive Garry Hunt said Joondalup was in a unique position.
“In 2022, the City of Joondalup will be closer to achieving its goal of being a Primary Centre and CBD, with high-rise buildings and the many natural, cultural, entertainment, commercial, education and retail industries and attractions on offer giving the City vibrancy,” he said.
Joondalup Mayor Troy Pickard said that the City released a 2020 document in 2007 that outlined what Joondalup might look like at in the near future.
“Over the past two years that vision has started to become a reality with several multi-storey buildings, including a seven-storey building currently under construction, becoming part the Joondalup City Centre landscape,” he said.
“Developers who were considering two or three storey buildings are now re-evaluating and are building four and five storey developments, big organisations like the Motor Industry Trade Association and the National Electrical & Communications Association have relocated to the Joondalup City Centre.
“This new investment and significant growth and development in the City Centre paints a positive picture for the future of Joondalup.
“With an exciting future ahead, the City is very interested in finding out what its key stakeholders have planned in the years ahead and to share a vision and goals to achieve as Joondalup continues to grow.”
The Forum was also used as an opportunity for the City to launch its new Investment Attraction brochure which will be distributed to State Government Departments and will be readily available to businesses and investors considering moving into the City of Joondalup.
