City Announces Free Wi-Fi Initiative in Joondalup City Centre
26/06/2012 3:24:06 PM
At the City of Joondalup’s recent Harnessing the Power of the Digital Economy business forum, Mayor Troy Pickard announced a new free Wi-Fi service would soon be unveiled in the City Centre, called Discover Joondalup.
The Wi-Fi service will cover a wide area of the City Centre from Central Park in the South to Shenton Avenue in the North, from Lakeside Drive in the East to McLarty Avenue in the West.
Mayor Pickard said he believed the Joondalup City Centre area would become an e-zone for business meetings, students and community members to mix work, shopping and relaxation.
“This is an opportunity for Joondalup to transform itself by taking advantage of the digital economy and by raising the profile of Joondalup as a modern, connected place to be – literally, a hot spot City,” he said.
“There is strong demand from residents, businesses, and our Joondalup Learning Precinct partners to uptake the technologies that will help to transform this City and this region into a digital savvy, modern e-City.
“This initiative will encourage remote mobile workers to the City Centre, stimulate business activity and assist the local community to connect with each other and with business, education and health sectors,” Mayor Pickard said.
“The City is confident this free Wi-Fi service becomes another attraction and reason for new visitors and businesses to journey to Joondalup.
“The required infrastructure work has commenced for this project and more information on its progress will be made available in the coming months.”
