15 Hocking Parade, Sorrento (Sacred Heart College) – Additional land use “Community Purpose” to Existing Educational Establishment (SAT Reconsideration)

In May 2017 the City received an application for the additional land use ‘Place of Assembly’ at the above address to allow for the hire of the performing arts building and recently constructed gymnasium by non-college community groups. Following community consultation in July 2018 and August 2018, Council resolved to refuse the development at its meeting on Tuesday 18 September 2018.

Subsequent to this decision and the gazettal of the City of Joondalup Local Planning Scheme No. 3 (LPS3), the College exercised its right to seek a review of Councils decision through the State Administrative Tribunal. Through this process the College now seeks approval to have their development reconsidered and has modified their application as follows:

  • Modifications to the land use from ‘Place of Assembly’ to ‘Community Purpose’ to align with land use definitions of LPS3;
  • Inclusion of the old gymnasium, chapel and oval for hire by non-college community groups;
  • Modifications to the event management plan which outlines how the College intends to manage school and non-school events outside of school hours, including traffic, parking and security.
