Cat registration

All cats over the age of six months must be registered, sterilised and microchipped.
Cats can be registered for:

  • One year
  • Three years
  • The lifetime of the cat.

All cat registrations in the City of Joondalup expire on 31 October each year.

Cat owner requirements

  • To contact their local vets to arrange sterilisation and microchipping prior to registration.

Provide proof of sterilisation with any of the following:

  • Veterinary Surgeons Certificate
  • Statutory declaration signed by the cat owner
  • By an officer of the City sighting an ear tattoo.

Provide proof of microchipping with any of the following:

  • Copy of the microchip certificate/paperwork
  • Veterinary Surgeons Certificate.

Cats will not be registered without proof of microchipping and sterilisation.

Some cats may be exempt from microchipping due to circumstances such as advanced age or other factors. In these instances, proof of a microchip exemption must be provided in writing from a veterinarian.

Pensioner concessions can only be applied on the production of a current Pensioner Concession Card (issued by Centrelink or Department of Veteran Affairs), State Concession Card, or a Senior’s Card together with a Commonwealth Senior’s Health Card.

Providing an alternative contact person when registering your cat is essential. This can provide City Officers with an alternative contact if your cat has been found and you are not contactable.
