Public Art: Emperor Gum Moth, 2016

Commissioned following the  Artist-In-Residence program 2015, this sculpture is designed to attract local insects that are looking for love.

With glowing ultra violet lights by night, and pretty flowering plants by day, this interactive ecological artwork is designed to help us appreciate the stunning biodiversity of the region.

Viewers can visit the sculpture at night and see what kind of insects appear naturally in our environment.

Western Australia is famous among entomologists for its biodiversity and is known as a biodiversity hotspot.

Brandon Ballengée is an artist, biologist and environmental educator, whose aim is to teach us to understand the important role that insects play in our life.
