Aussie Backyard Bird Count
Get involved in the Birdlife Aussie Backyard Bird Count (ABBC) from Monday 21 October to Sunday 27 October 2019, supported by the City of Joondalup.
All you need to do is count and record as many birds as possible over a 20-minute period in your backyard or a local area such as a park, beach, wetland, bushland or nearby street. The data collected assists BirdLife Australia in understanding more about the common birds that live in the same urban environment as us. This research is used to look at bird trends and to indicate the health of the environment.
The City of Joondalup has some great bird watching spots such as:
- Neil Hawkins Park, Joondalup
- Picnic Cove, Edgewater
- Craigie Bushland, Craigie
- Warwick Open Space, Warwick
- Hepburn Heights Conservation Area, Padbury
- Shepherds Bush Reserve, Kingsley
- Whitfords Nodes, Hillarys
- Iluka Foreshore Reserve, Iluka
The best time to spot birds is at dawn and dusk when they are most active. For further information, have a look at the Frequently Asked Questions on the Aussie Backyard Bird Count website.
