Magic of Roald Dahl

The Libraries are celebrating the magical world of Roald Dahl in April. Come along for a range of fun and creative activities inspired by Roald Dahl characters and stories. The complete program can be viewed on the City’s event calendar.

Cost is $4.00 per child per activity and payment online is necessary to secure your place. Bookings are essential and open online from Monday 22 March 2021, 9.30am. There is a maximum of three events per child, and parents/carers of children under 12 years are required by library policy to remain in the building while their children attend the event.

  4. Click on register to add your child’s details.
  5. Please note, there will be no refunds issued for non-attendance.

What’s on offer

Fantastic Stop Motion Films

Thursday 8 April 2021, 2.00pm – 3.00pm, Woodvale Library
Use stop motion animation to create your very own Roald Dahl movie, just like the blockbuster hit Fantastic Mr Fox. Participants will need to bring their own iPad or tablet with the Stop Motion Studio app preinstalled. For ages 8 to 12 years.

Marvellous Minibeasts

Friday 9 April 2021, 1.00pm – 2.00pm, Duncraig Library – Fully Booked
Get up close with a range of friendly minibeasts including stick insects, giant burrowing cockroaches, beetles, caterpillars and more. In this interactive workshop you will learn about the fascinating world of invertebrates and the crucial role they play in our environment. For ages 5 to 12 years.

Nature Life Drawing

Friday 9 April 2021, 3.00pm – 4.00pm, Duncraig Library – Fully Booked
Be inspired by the characters in Roald Dahl’s book James and the Giant Peach in this observational drawing workshop. Interact up close with a range of friendly native flora and fauna, including insects, frogs and lizards and explore different drawing techniques to capture the texture, colour and patterns of the natural world. For ages 8 to 12 years.

BFG Dream Catchers

Monday 12 April 2021, 1.00pm – 2.30pm, Joondalup Library
Come dream-catching in giant country and explore the amazing world of Roald Dahl’s The BFG and create a colourful dream catcher to hang in your bedroom. For ages 8 to 12 years.

Dinosaur Explorers

Tuesday 13 April 2021, 10.00am – 11.30am, Whitford Library
Have you ever dreamed of being a paleontologist? Explore the amazing life of Mary Anning, known as the “Dinosaur Lady,” who discovered the first dinosaur fossil at the age of 12. Come along to learn about fossils, create your own fossil dough craft and sketch any finds in your own special paleontologist notebook. For ages 5 to 8 years.

Pyjama Story Time

Tuesday 13 April 2021, 5.00pm – 6.00pm, Woodvale Library
Put on your pyjamas, bring your bedtime buddy or blankie for a special evening of stories, songs and special activities at the library. For ages 2 to 6 years.

Charlie’s Chocolate Boxes

Wednesday 14 April 2021, 2.00pm – 3.30pm, Joondalup Library
It’s time to bring Willy Wonka’s world alive. Using model magic clay, recreate characters and scenes from the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in a special story box to take home. For ages 6 to 12 years.

Cupcakes Galore

Thursday 15 April 2021, 2.00pm – 3.00pm, Whitford Library – Fully Booked
Come along to a fantastic modelling and cupcake decorating workshop, where you will work with fondant to make colourful toppers and figurines inspired by the story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Learn the art of decorating and reward yourself at the end by indulging in your edible cupcakes. For ages 7 to 12 years.
