Book for January school holiday activities
Let your child’s curious mind investigate and imagine at the City of Joondalup Libraries this Summer through stories, animals, technology and craft workshops. The complete program can be viewed on the City’s event calendar.
Cost is up to $4.00 per child per activity. Bookings are essential and open online from Monday 17 December 2018, 9.30am. There is a maximum of three events per child, and parents/carers of children under 12 years are required by library policy to remain in the building while their children attend the event.

What’s on offer
Monday 7 January 2019, 2.00pm – 3.00pm, Joondalup Library
Create a sculpture out of Lego. Shine the light on your creation to produce a unique shadow. What will your shadow look like? An animal or a person or a character from your favourite book? For ages 5 to 12.
Tuesday 8 January 2019, Duncraig Library
Session One, 10.30am to 11.30am, for ages 4 to 7.
Session Two, 12.00pm to 1.00pm, for ages 8 to 12.
Come down to the library and meet the mad Professor Maths. Professor Maths is bringing exciting and stimulating hands-on activities to the library and he needs your help to solve each problem. Work with Professor Maths in small groups to complete each activity while having fun.
Microbes in Action
Wednesday 9 January 2019, 10.00am – 11.00am, Woodvale Library
A fun and interactive session discovering tiny creatures living in our home, as well as those living on us and inside us. Observe microbes dance and wiggle under a microscope. Children will be able to transform into a little scientist with lab coats and protective gear. For ages 5 to 12.
Busting the Myth of the Mad Scientist
Wednesday 9 January 2019, 12.00noon – 1.00pm, Woodvale Library
An interactive presentation with photos, stories and question and answer time. A demo of feeding parasites with real laboratory equipment will be included. Original story sketches of “My Mad Scientist Mummy”, research journals and lab tools will also be available for viewing. For ages 8 to 12.
Thursday 10 January 2019, 10.30am – 12.30pm, Whitford Library
Team up to create a chariot using cardboard and a Sphero Robotic Ball. Test your design as you race your Sphero Chariot against other teams. Spheros will be provided but please bring your own smartphone or tablet with the free Sphero Edu app downloaded and a personal account created. For ages 7 to 12.
Stop Motion Salad
Monday 14 January 2019, 10.30am – 11.30am, Joondalup Library
Stop-motion animation is one of the simplest, most fun animation techniques. Use fruit and vegetables to create a unique animation promoting healthy food. Please bring your own iPad or tablet with the free app Stop Motion Studio downloaded ready to use. For ages 8 to 12

Discover the wonderful world of animals with Animal Ark. Children can have the experience of a lifetime with an interactive nature-based presentation with real live lizards, frogs, insects, spiders and snakes. For ages 5 to 12.
Friday 18 January 2019, 10.00am – 12.00noon, Duncraig Library
Let’s create some science experiments with snap-on electronics. Create some circuits and test to see if they work. How do lights work? What is a circuit? Come and find out in this interactive session where we will create different science based experiments with electronics. For ages 4 to 7.
Friday 18 January 2019, 1.00pm – 3.00pm, Duncraig Library
Create 3D prinitng designs by designing and building a boat with a drawing application then see them being created on the 3D printer. Kids will learn all aspects of 3D prinitng and how this technology is changing the world. Can you build the best boat of the day and will it float? For ages 7 to 12.

Join puppeteer Leon and learn about the world of marionette puppets. Children will explore the principles of balance, weight distribution and control, through experimental play, and then create their own marionette. For ages 7 to 12
Go Drawing Mad

Go DRAWING MAD as Toonworld invites you to come on a journey filled with creativity and challenges where you’ll meet fun characters and design our own heroes while defending the lands against the evil Rubbix and his rampaging stickmen army.

Let’s learn about facial expressions, and what features make a face happy, sad or angry. Then create a mask from a box, full of expression. For ages 6 to 12.

Curious about pets? Not everyone has dogs, cats, fish or birds. Come along to learn about some of the curious pets’ kids have around the world and the costs and care of curious pets that are allowed in W.A. Create and take home a craft that needs to be looked after just like a curious pet. For ages 5 to 12.
