Celebrate Stories

Warm up these Winter holidays as we celebrate the magic of stories. Join the Libraries for a range of creative workshops and performances that explore the different ways that stories can be created and shared with the world.

Cost is $4.00 per child per activity and payment online is necessary to secure your place. Bookings are essential and open online from Monday 21 June 2021, 9.30am.

There is a maximum of three events per child, and parents/carers of children under 12 years are required by library policy to remain in the building while their children attend the event.

  4. Click on register to add your child’s details.
  5. Please note, there will be no refunds issued.

What’s on offer

Watercolour galaxy – FULLY BOOKED

Monday 5 July 2021, 2.00pm – 3.30pm, Joondalup Library

Are you fascinated with the stars in the sky? Have fun experimenting with watercolour paints and create your own galaxy painting inspired by the picture book ‘How to catch a star’ by Oliver Jeffers. For ages 5 to 8 years.

 

Storigami – FULLY BOOKED

Tuesday 6 July 2021,10.30am – 12.00 noon, Whitford Library

What happens when you put storytelling and origami together? You get Storigami! Join the amazing Sanny Ang for an interactive lesson in origami. This session begins with a story to guide you through each fold and ends with a surprise origami figure that can jump, flap or fly away. For ages 7 to 12 years.

 

Collage Creations

Wednesday 7 July, 2021, 2.00pm – 3.30pm, Joondalup Library

Be inspired by the amazing artwork and books by Jeannie Baker, such as ‘Window’ and ‘Mirror’. Learn about different techniques of collage and create a beautiful landscape artwork to take home. For ages 8 to 12 years.

 

Noongar seasons

Thursday 8 July 2021, 2.00pm – 3.30pm, Whitford Library

NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Join us as we celebrate NAIDOC Week by exploring the Noongar seasons and making your own season wheel to take home. For ages 5 to 8 years.

 

My Silly Mum Show

Tuesday 13 July 2021, 2.00pm – 3.00pm, Woodvale Library

Join Pyjama Drama for a fun and interactive show full of singing, playing and pretending. Inspired by local author Monique Mulligan’s book “My Silly Mum”, children will be taken on an adventure of the imagination and learn that sometimes it’s good to be silly! For ages 3 to 7 years.

 

The Imagination Factory

Wednesday 14 July 2021, 10.30am – 12.00noon, Woodvale Library

You are invited to be vehemently, veraciously verbose! Play through a series of fantastical writing games where we will create nonsensical stories and ludicrous limericks, limited only by your own amazing imagination! For ages 8 to 12 years.

 

Creating Characters – FULLY BOOKED

Friday 16 July 2021, 12.00noon – 1.00pm, Duncraig Library

Join children’s illustrator Aska for a fun drawing workshop to kick start your imagination and create weird and wonderful characters. Learn how to breathe life into your characters or creatures with handy tips on design, facial expressions and body language. For 6 to 12 years.

 

Comic Book Design – FULLY BOOKED

Friday 16 July 2021, 1.30pm – 3.00pm, Duncraig Library

Create funny and surprising comics and visual stories with children’s illustrator Aska. You will learn how to split a story into pictures that flow together to make a ‘movie’ in your reader’s mind, and get tips on how to generate ideas and use pictures to tell amazing stories. For ages 8 to 12 years.

 

Pyjama Story Time – Free Event

Thursday 8 July 2021, 5.00pm – 6.00pm, Woodvale Library

Put on your pyjamas, bring your bedtime buddy or blankie and join us for a special evening of stories, songs and special activities at the library. For ages 2 to 6 years.

 

NAIDOC Treasure Hunt

Visit the Libraries anytime during the holidays and join in the NAIDOC Treasure Hunt. NAIDOC week is held around Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Free activity. No bookings required. For ages 5 to 12 years.
