Fun and Games

Spring into fun at the Libraries with a range of play-based activities that encourage children to explore, experiment and be creative. The complete program can be viewed on the libraries’ website or the City’s event calendar.

Cost is $4.00 per child per activity. Bookings are essential and open online on Monday 14 September 2020 from 9.30am. There is a maximum of three events per child, and parents/carers of children under 12 years are required by library policy to remain in the building while their children attend the event.

What’s on offer

Claymation Magic

Wednesday 30 September 2020, 2.00pm – 3.30pm, Woodvale Library
Make your own stop motion animation using play dough! Come and learn the magic of animation and create a theatrical masterpiece. Participants will need to bring their own iPad or tablet with the Stop Motion Studio app installed. Stop Motion Studio is available for free. For ages eight to 12 years.

Cupcakes Galore

Friday 2 October 2020, 2.30pm – 3.30pm, Joondalup Library
Come and join The Cupcake Kellys for a fantastic fondant modelling and cupcake decorating workshop. You will learn how to work with fondant to make colorful and creative toppers and figurines as well as have fun frosting cupcakes. Learn the art of decorating and reward yourself at the end by indulging in your edible cupcakes. For ages seven to 12 years.

Totems – Event cancelled

Monday 5 October 2020, 10.00am – 11.30am, Joondalup Library
In this workshop you will learn about some of Western Australia’s native animals, why they are important to Noongar people and learn some Noongar words along the way. Bianca uses her paintings, drawings, story stones and real photos of animals and their tracks to help people learn about Noongar totems in a different way, through art. Each participant will get to paint their totem of choice. For ages six to 12 years.

Eye Spy – Spaces available!

Wednesday 7 October 2020, 10.30am – 11.30am, Duncraig Library
I spy with my little eye… some library fun! Celebrate your favourite eye spy books from Where’s Wally to Animalia. Test your observation skills and make your own concentration bottle. Parent involvement appreciated. For ages five to eight years.

Manga/Anime Workshop

Thursday 8 October 2020, 2.00pm – 3.30pm, Woodvale Library
Come and join Perth based Japanese artist Nami Osaki from Nami’s Art Room for a Manga/Anime workshop. You will learn fun and easy Japanese Manga/Anime drawing techniques including how to colour and shade like a pro! For ages six to nine years.

Eco Heroes – Spaces available!

Friday 9 October 2020, 1.30pm – 3.30pm, Duncraig Library
Seeking heroes who love dressing up, caring for nature, getting crafty and making some noise! Join Cara the Eco Faerie to create super hero costume pieces from recycled materials, while learning about waste, nature play and Australian animals. For ages seven to 12 years.

Digital Escape Room

A digital escape room is an online story where you need to solve puzzles in order to progress. You can complete the escape room as a group or as an individual. Maybe compete against your friends or family members to see who can do it the fastest. Check out the latest Digital Escape Room based on the 13 storey tree house books. Can you find Andy and Terry? Suitable for ages 8 and up.

Take and Explore

Visit the Library throughout the holidays and get creative. Collect some crafty material to take home and make your own curious critter bookmark or join in the Holiday Treasure Hunt. These activations are for you and your children to enjoy at any time, as often as you wish. Cost: free. No bookings required
