Building development guidelines to protect street trees

The City encourages residents to develop plans which retain existing street trees.

Should a tree/s still need to be removed (after building plan approval) due to the building works or the crossover location, then the owner and/or builder would need to reimburse the City for the amenity value of the tree/s (Helliwell Method), the costs incurred for removal and a replacement tree.

Residents or developers are unable to undertake (or engage a contractor to undertake) removal of street trees. Should it be found that the tree/s has been damaged or removed without approval, the property owner may be liable for the amenity value of the tree/s on the verge as per Regulation 5 of the Local Government and Uniform Provisions and Part 8.1 the City’s Local Government and Public Property Local Law 2014.
