The popular Food for Fines initiative returns this year and allows library members to have $1 in fines waived for each item of food then donate over the month of November. This year, all donations will be shared between three local organisations: the Patricia Giles Centre for Non-Violence, The Spiers Centre, and the RSPCA WA, helping provide relief to families in the lead-up to Christmas. You don't have to be a library member or have fines to donate either - we welcome all donations.
You can donate a wide range of non-perishable boxed, canned, or bottled goods including:
- Canned fruit, veggies, soups and meats (tuna, chicken, salmon)
- Pasta, rice, cereal, dinner mixes, instant noodles
- Coffee, tea, biscuits, fruit cake, long-life milk, muesli bars
- Cooking oil, sauces, spreads
- Sealed food and treats for dogs and cats
To ensure safety and quality, donations must be unopened, undamaged, and have a minimum shelf life of three months. Perishable or refrigerated items cannot be accepted.
Donations can be dropped off any City of Joondalup Library between Saturday 1 November- Sunday 30 November.
This is a great opportunity to reconnect with your local library, support your community, and head into the holiday season fine free and full of goodwill!
