Customer service centre to close

Due to a decline in foot traffic and more residents choosing to transact with the City online, the City’s Whitford Customer Service Centre will be closing permanently on Saturday 31 August 2019.

From 1 September, members of the community who want to use in person customer service – including rate payments, animal registrations, building and planning applications and requests for service – can continue to do this from the City’s Administration Building at 90 Boas Avenue, Joondalup.

Any community members who prefer to deal with the City in person can still visit the Joondalup Customer Service Centre, Monday to Friday, during business hours.

City of Joondalup Acting CEO Dale Page said with the significant growth in online transactions in recent years, less people now visited suburban customer service centres.

“Times have certainly changed with many of our customers now preferring the convenience of engaging and interacting with the City online,” she said.

“The City’s website alone allows residents and ratepayers to access more than 100 services from their phone, PC or tablet device.

“The City will still cater for customers who prefer doing business face-to face, but it makes sense to bring this service into the one central location at the City’s Administration Building, which is easily accessible by car and just a five-minute walk from the Joondalup Train Station.

“It is important to note the staff who were rostered at Whitford Customer Service Centre will continue to be employed by the City.”

Low visitation rates meant even a reduced hours operation would not have been viable given the City’s needs to balance the demand for service against the operational costs associated with keeping the centre open.

The Joondalup Customer Service Centre is open weekdays, between 8.30am and 5.00 pm, with payments accepted until 4.30pm.

The Whitford Seniors Citizens Centre and Whitford Library will be unaffected by this closure and will operate as per normal.
