Groups and club membership

Clubs are great places to make new friends or pick up a new hobby. There are many benefits to joining a social club including:

  • Meeting new people
  • Picking up a new skill
  • Keeping mentally active and involved
  • Developing a sense community
  • Discovering new interests.

Book clubs

Book club members broaden their range of reading, increase their knowledge and meet new people by meeting to discuss their latest book. Book clubs meet once a month at all four City of Joondalup Libraries. Some clubs meet during the day and others the evening to accommodate most schedules. Brain games

Brain games is held at Joondalup Library every Monday at 2.00pm and Duncraig Library on the second Saturday of the month at 10.00am. Enjoy an hour of puzzles, quizzes and games, designed to exercise and stimulate the brain. These challenging activities, held in a fun and social environment, will get the grey matter firing and help improve cognition.

Camera club

The aim of the camera club is to assist members to improve their photographic skills and techniques by submitting regular works, through challenges, workshops and outings. Meetings are held monthly on a Friday afternoon, with additional excursions and workshops organised throughout the year. Chess afternoon

A session for anyone who wants to learn how to play chess or just have a friendly game. Join in at Woodvale Library every Thursday at 4.00pm. All welcome. Chess sets are provided. No bookings required.

Crochet group

Do you crochet? Would you like to crochet with others in a friendly, social group? Join in every Wednesday at either Whitford Library, 10.00am or Woodvale Library, 9.30am. All adults welcome. No bookings required.

French conversation group

These informal sessions would suit people travelling to French speaking countries or for those who just wish to practice speaking French. Attendees must have some French language skills to participate. Currently, weekly meetings are held at Joondalup Library on Thursday evenings. Games in the Library

Libraries have a great range of games for patrons to enjoy. They are for use in the libraries only, but can be played for the whole day. Bring a friend or two to your local library and enjoy the challenge. Alternatively, come along to a scheduled Game On! session at Joondalup Library on Thursday mornings at 10.00am. Choose to play Scrabble, Upwords, Backgammon, Yahtzee, Rummikub, card games and many more. No bookings required.

Jigsaw group

Meet other jigsaw enthusiasts at Duncraig Library every third Wednesday at 2.00pm. Have fun tackling different types of jigsaws whilst improving your memory and visual-spatial reasoning. All welcome. No bookings required.

Knitting groups

Knitting groups provide an opportunity for adults who knit or crochet to get together and socialise. Meet new people, create community craft projects, knit for charity or simply complete your own knitting work in the company of fellow knitters. All welcome. No bookings required.

Mahjong

Mahjong is a popular and challenging game and will help keep the brain active whilst having fun. For further information regarding available sessions in the libraries, please call 9400 4761.

Tabletop games

If you love board or tabletop gaming, or have been waiting for the opportunity to start, here is your big chance to play some really interesting games. The group meet weekly at Whitford Library, on Saturday mornings at 9.30am. Ages 16+. No bookings required.

Writers’ group

This group share their work, give and receive feedback, provide support and motivation, exchange ideas and expand and develop their writing. All forms of writing are encouraged.
