Hepburn Avenue upgrade works
The City of Joondalup will be undertaking upgrade works on the road shoulders of Hepburn Avenue in Duncraig in early-2019.
The project was identified following a road safety audit of that section of Hepburn Avenue. The works will be co-funded by the City and the State Government after the City gained grant funding approval via the State Black Spot Program.
Works involve the construction of additional 1.8metre wide road shoulders on both the east and west-bound carriageways of Hepburn Avenue between Marmion Avenue and the Mitchell Freeway.
Once completed, the extra carriageway shoulder will remove the sandy drop off currently experienced and provide space for errant vehicles to use as a recovery zone.
The works will also promote greater usage by road cyclists as they will have a safer space to ride within during this section of Hepburn Avenue.
“Hepburn Avenue is an important part of the City’s road network, and this stretch is a major thoroughfare from the Mitchell Freeway towards Hillarys Boat Harbour,” Joondalup Mayor Albert Jacob said.
“Improving bike infrastructure and enhancing connectivity and functionality is a key focus of the City’s Bike Plan and this project will not only promote convenient and efficient traffic movement but facilitate greater opportunities for cyclists.
“It is pleasing to deliver this project and we thank the State Government for their assistance in co-funding the construction works.”
