Joondalup to host Festival of Motoring
Joondalup Council has given the green light to a two-day motorsport extravaganza within the Joondalup City Centre, incorporating a series of car sprint events.
The Council has agreed to list for consideration $350,000 in its 2022/23 budget to sponsor the 2022 Festival of Motoring, which will be delivered by Justin Hunt Management.
A range of car types will take part in the racing component, making their way around the Joondalup City Centre at speed. Car displays and competitions will also be incorporated into the programming.
The inaugural festival is planned for October 2022 with the potential for the City to sponsor the event again in 2023 and 2024.
It is expected to inject $1million into the local economy and draw tens of thousands of people to the Joondalup City Centre.
Joondalup Mayor Albert Jacob said the City of Joondalup had experience holding and supporting significant events such as the Joondalup Festival, Valentine’s Concert, Kaleidoscope, Luminight and AFL pre-season competition games and is confident the Festival of Motoring will become an iconic event that furthers Joondalup’s reputation as a Destination City.
“Come October, car lovers are going to be in heaven and our City centre will literally be buzzing with cars of all makes, models and eras taking turns around the track and on display,” he said.
“But the action won’t just be on the track, the COVID-safe event will have plenty of family-friendly fun on offer and we expect the flow-on effect for local businesses to be strong.
“Attracting big events to Joondalup is part of the City’s strategy to position Joondalup as a ‘Destination City’ that creates new opportunities for our community and attracts visitors with its diverse mix of iconic events with local, national, and international appeal.”
