Community Choral Project

The City has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 Joondalup Festival due to uncertainty around the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes associated community projects, the Twilight Lantern Parade and Community Choral Project.

One of the region’s most popular annual cultural events, the festival will instead be replaced by an alternative cultural event that will allow for COVID safe measures to be implemented. This event will take place between 26 – 28 March. More details will be released in the coming weeks.

The City had been hoping the festival – which regularly attracts tens of thousands of patrons into the Joondalup City Centre – would return in 2021, after its cancellation in 2020 during the height of COVID-19 restrictions in Western Australia.

However, revised event guidelines released by the Department of Health in November 2020, which followed the reopening of WA’s borders to other States in Australia, meant the City would be unable to host an event of this magnitude while complying with the necessary physical distancing and contact tracing requirements.

Uncertainty would also have surrounded the availability of acts from outside Western Australia.

While it is disappointing news for many families from around Perth’s northern corridor and beyond, the health and safety of our community and visitors to our City will always be our primary concern.

The City is already working on an exciting replacement event, featuring local talent; a positive for the local arts and culture industry which has being doing it tough over the past 12 months.

As we saw at the City’s recent Music in the Park concert at Seacrest Park, hosting successful family-friendly events that are COVID safe are still achievable and I look forward to seeing you at one or more of these events in the coming weeks and months.
