Seniors and public transport
The Get on Board program helps seniors with one-to-one support from a volunteer to learn how to use the public transport system which increasingly relies on new technology or improved digital literacy to access a timetable, understand pricing, buy a ticket and work out a suitable route from home to destination. It is anticipated that seniors will gain more independence once their confidence improves in accessing public transport, and in turn their ability to connect with services, activities, friends and family.
The City of Joondalup, in partnership with the Cities of Stirling and Wanneroo, has received funding from the Department of Communities Age-Friendly Communities Innovation and Implementation Grants Program to implement the program.
Each local government is seeking seniors to participate in the four sessions over a four week program to learn about the public transport system and gain confidence to use it.
