General waste (red lid) bin processing
General waste should be placed in the red lid bin only.
- General waste is collected and transported to the Resource Recovery Facility (RRF) at Neerabup.
- The organic contents (ie. approximately 50%), such as garden waste, food scraps, cottons or textiles, are composted. The compost is used in the rehabilitation of degraded lands and as a soil conditioner.
- The remaining non-organic, residual waste is then sent to landfill.
How to make better compost
Place no glass – whole or broken in your general waste bin
If glass is placed in the green lid bin it can reduce the quality of the compost.
The “No Glass” campaign is co-ordinated by Mindarie Regional Council and involves City of Joondalup, City of Wanneroo, Town of Cambridge, City of Vincent and Town of Victoria Park.
Further information regarding green waste and green waste collections is available in the Waste Guide 2018/19.
