Literacy for schools

Programs and opportunities

City of Joondalup Libraries have a range of programs and opportunities to assist teachers to meet the literacy requirements of the WA curriculum.

Children’s Book Week

Children’s Book Week is an annual program of events. It is a literary showcase of children’s authors, illustrators, storytellers, and workshop facilitators.

Display of school work

Showcase your students’ achievements to the broader community through public display.

Library Discovery Tours

Libraries actively collect resources that support school curricula and are available to conduct Library Discovery Tours for class groups or teaching staff on professional development days.

Story Time

Library staff can come to your classroom and run Story Time sessions on request or alternatively you can bring your students to the library for a dedicated session.

Better Beginnings for Kindergartens

Better Beginnings for kindergarten aged children is an exciting extension to the state-wide literacy program. Free Better Beginnings Kindy packs can be delivered to all kindergarten classes in the City of Joondalup.

  • Teachers must register their school’s participation online.
  • Librarians can visit local schools to deliver packs and conduct a Story Time session.
  • Librarians can visit local schools and talk to parents about literacy and services the Libraries offer.
  • Home-schoolers can contact the library to collect a pack.

Homework Help

Teachers and/or students can participate in a Homework Help information session about the services, online resources, study areas, and research assistance available through Joondalup Libraries.
