NAIDOC Week celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, cultures and communities and their contribution to modern Australia.

The Joondalup region is part of Mooro country and is an important place for Indigenous people. Every year the City celebrates NAIDOC week with a month long celebration of Indigenous culture in July. In light of COVID-19 the NAIDOC Week celebrations were held in November.

The City also worked with local Indigenous Curator Esther McDowell to produce a limited edition City of Joondalup Indigenous Artwork Collection publication. The publication includes all of the City’s 23 Artworks by Indigenous Artists, as well as a Curator’s Foreword by Ms McDowell. Artworks featured in the publication were on display in the Joondalup Library for the month of November 2020.
