Three bins in the City
Let’s Sort Waste
It’s the right thing to do for the environment
Are You Three Bin Ready?
The City of Joondalup will be rolling out the new three bin system from 21 January 2019 until the end of March 2019.
To assist the City during the roll out:
- Leave bins on the verge from 6.00am until 6.00pm on your waste collection day.
What the City will do:
- Deliver a new 140L red lid bin for general waste
- Replace the old general waste bin lid with a new lime green lid. This bin will be for green waste.
The roll out will encompass 60,000 residential properties throughout the City’s 22 suburbs.
Once the roll out is complete at your property the new bins can be used straight away.
The 140L red lid bin for general waste will be collected weekly – one week with the 240L or 360L yellow lid bin for recycling and on the alternate week with the 240L lime green lid bin for green waste.
Residents can request a free upgrade to a larger 360L yellow lid bin for recycling, using the online form. Requested 360L recycling bins will be delivered from April 2019.
Changing from a two bin system to a three bin system aims to improve recycling rates and reduce waste going to landfill which provides an opportunity to generate both cost savings for both the City and its ratepayers.
This project is funded by the State Government through the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Account and administered by the Waste Authority.
This project will assist the City in achieving the State governments waste diversion from landfill target of 65% by 2020.
The City encourages residents to become more sustainable and find ways to reduce the amount of waste they place in the waste bin and improve recycling rates.
Behavioural change and improving how we all manage waste is a key to the success of the three bin system which aims to deliver increased diversion rates from landfill and save ratepayer dollars in the process
