New domestic waste and recycling collection contractor
The domestic rubbish and recycling collection has looked a little different from Monday 2 July when the distinctive dark blue trucks of SUEZ Recycling & Recovery Pty Ltd hit local streets as the City’s new domestic collection contractor.
In February 2018, Joondalup Council accepted the tender from SUEZ to provide domestic rubbish and recycling collection services for a period of five years, with an option for a further two years.
SUEZ will empty all domestic waste bins weekly and deliver the waste to the composting plant in Neerabup. Recycling bins will continue to be emptied fortnightly and material will be delivered to the Cleanaway Material Recovery Facility in Guildford.
SUEZ will also partner with the City to roll out the three bin system, which is set to be introduced in January 2019, and will service the new greens waste bin on a fortnightly basis.
SUEZ’s residential collection fleet are fitted with the latest in waste management technology, including the CORE On-Board Computer and DriveCam cameras, which will enable the City to receive data and information from SUEZ to ensure ratepayers are getting the best service possible.
“SUEZ is one of Australia’s leading waste management companies and their cutting edge technology will assist the City to maintain best practice in waste management and optimum service for our ratepayers,” Joondalup Mayor Albert Jacob said.
“I take this opportunity to thank Cleanaway for the tremendous job they have done over the past 10 years servicing the City’s waste and recycling bin collections. They will continue to have a presence in the City as our bulk hard waste collection contractor.”
The City expects a seamless transition to the new domestic collection contractor with no change to current collection days and residents are to put their bins out by 6.00am as normal on those days.
