Number of cats permitted on a property

In accordance with the City of Joondalup Animal Local Law 1999 and Cat Act 2011, a household is able to keep three cats.

If more than three cats are requested, the owner is required to register all cats and is required to apply for special permission from the City. Should special permission be provided for more than three cats at a property, the permission only applies to the cats nominated at the time of approval. Any new or additional cats at the property will also require special permission from the City.

All cats on a property from the age of six months must be:

  • Registered.
  • Sterilised.
  • Microchipped.
