Mobile Phone Donations – Hello Initiative

The City have joined forces with a great not-for-profit organisation, Hello Initiative (HI).

Hello Initiative’s biggest and most popular project is ‘mobile support’. They connect young people in the WA justice system with recycled and refurbished smartphones. HI fits in with the waste hierarchy of waste avoidance through recovery and reuse of mobile phones.

Every time a mobile is placed into one of the City’s drop-off points, it is donated to the Hello Initiative organisation.

What can be donated?

  • If your phone turns on, it works! Even if it doesn’t turn on, it might still work. HI can repair minor damages to phones so please continue to donate.
  • Factory reset devices – if possible, disconnect your phone from all accounts and factory reset it. Please see the instructions attached below on how to do this.

If you would like some assistance in resetting your phone, please visit one of the City’s libraries where a friendly staff member may be able to assist. The libraries run various workshops on technology – ‘Ready, Tech, Go’ are great sessions that go over different ‘tech’ subjects.

If a donation is unable to be repurposed as part of the mobile support project (e.g. the device is severely broken), the phone will be sent to an e-waste drop-off point for recycling.
