Removal of Moolanda Footbridge

Moolanda Pedestrian and Cycleway Bridge

What’s happening?

Following Council’s adoption of the 2024-25 Budget, the City of Joondalup (City) is excited to announce the inclusion of the Moolanda Pedestrian and Cycleway Bridge within the City’s 2024-25 Capital Works Program.

Previously, a 37-metre three-span timber bridge, known as the Moolanda Footbridge, served as an important crossing for pedestrians and cyclists. However, following a structural assessment in April 2022, the bridge was deemed no longer structurally sound and, consequently, removed.

The new pedestrian and cycleway bridge will restore the 2.5km uninterrupted Robertson Road Cycleway (RRC), that links the Principal Shared Path (PSP) along the Mitchell Freeway with the Lake Goollelal path networks. This major project will improve connectivity, making it safer and easier for people to access local schools, facilities and parks.

What’s next?

In the upcoming months, the City will advance planning activities and secure final design approval, with tenders scheduled for release in 2024. Construction is expected to commence in early 2025, subject to the availability of materials and contractors.
