National Volunteer Week 2023

National Volunteer Week, Monday 15 May – Sunday 21 May 2023, is an opportunity to celebrate all volunteers and recognise the vital work they do in the local community.
The City of Joondalup would like to thank all of the dedicated volunteers that serve the Joondalup community.

The Joondalup Volunteer Resource Centre (JVRC) has been operational since 2003 and supports volunteers and volunteer-involving organisations within the City of Joondalup.

JVRC provides a face-to-face connection between the City’s residents and community groups, linking potential volunteers with vacant volunteer roles in the community.

Now located at Whitford Library, JVRC operates from Tuesday – Thursday, 9.30am to 2.30pm, with onsite referral officers who can assist community members to find the perfect role within volunteer-involving organisations that are best suited to their skills and interests.

In 2021/22 JVRC referral officers responded to 313 engagements and contributed 860 hours of their time to help connect local volunteers with local community organisations.   Ongoing engagement with the Volunteer Involving Organisations helped to ensure volunteers were finding appropriate opportunities.

More than 100 volunteers help the City deliver a range of programs such as the Community Transport Program, along with community events.

Volunteers also assist with library programs, including Books on Wheels, Genie Exchange, transcription of oral history interviews, library shelving and Keystrokes, a personalised one-to-one session where volunteers assist people with using their smart phone or tablet, navigate the internet or using apps.

International Volunteer Day, Monday 5 December 2022 – ‘Solidarity through Volunteering’

In 1985, the United Nations designated 5 December each year as International Volunteer Day, also known as Thank a Volunteer Day in Western Australia.

This is a unique opportunity for volunteers and organisations to celebrate their efforts, to share their values and to promote their work among their communities, non-governmental organisation (NGOs), United Nations agencies, government authorities and the private sector.

“This year’s International Volunteer Day asks people to Volunteer now for our common future, it inspires people to take action now for people and the planet. Encouraging, recognising, and promoting volunteerism is an important part of creating a more equal and inclusive future for communities worldwide.”

The City would like to thank all off the dedicated volunteers for their continued service and support to volunteering for, and within the City of Joondalup.

Volunteer now for the future of our planet. Together, act now.
