Time Changes: Vinyl Art Workshop | Joondalup Festival 2026

Hosted by Curate, Perth’s champions of sustainable arts, this hands-on workshop transforms rescued vinyl LPs into one-of-a-kind clocks. You’ll receive a reclaimed record, paint pens and clock mechanisms, then design your own piece inspired by music, memories, patterns or favourite artists.

Held alongside Christine de Grancy's 'A Day with David' in Joondalup Contemporary Art Gallery, the craft session explores creativity, transformation and artistic evolution, with a curated David Bowie playlist setting the mood and light refreshments included.

Leave with a unique, functional artwork, a celebration of recycling, creativity and making something beautiful from the discarded.

Your ticket includes

  • A vintage vinyl LP (rescued from donation bins)
  • Clock mechanism and hands
  • All assembly materials and tools
  • Paint pens for decoration
  • Expert facilitation and guidance throughout
  • Light refreshments and snacks
  • A curated David Bowie playlist

The workshop will take around 1.5 to 2 hours depending on your design complexity and crafting ability – it's designed to be relaxed and self-paced.

At the end of the workshop, you’ll take home your completed working vinyl clock (allow 24 hours for paint to fully cure before hanging or displaying).

Venue and access

The workshop takes place at Joondalup Contemporary Art Gallery, right next to Joondalup Library and the Council Chambers. Joondalup Contemporary Art Gallery is a 5-minute walk from Joondalup Train Station. Multiple bus routes service the Joondalup CBD, including free CAT services.

The event is held in the gallery's workshop, located just around the corner from the exhibition space – there will be signs to point you in the right direction. The venue is small but wheelchair accessible with wide doorways and level floors. The activity involves fine motor skills (using paint pens) and some manual dexterity for assembling clock mechanisms, though facilitators will provide assistance and adaptations as needed to ensure all participants can create successfully.

Please note, due to material requirements, complimentary companion tickets are not available for this workshop. Companions are welcome to attend without a ticket to watch and support the activity.
