A centennial lone pine has been planted at Ocean Reef Marina on Remembrance Day 2025 in a living symbol of remembrance and resilience.
The tree, generously donated by Joondalup City RSL President Rick Green, will take root adjacent to the new Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club facility and near the ANZAC Memorial Arch.
The ceremony also marked 80 years since the end of World War II, with the tree planting forming a poignant tribute to those who served and sacrificed.
Joondalup Mayor Daniel Kingston, Deputy Mayor John Raftis, Federal Member for Moore Tom French, and Mr Green were among the dignitaries to attend the commemorative planting, which was coordinated in partnership with DevelopmentWA and project managers Bridge42.
Centennial lone pines are grown from seeds of the original tree at Gallipoli, where Australian soldiers fought in 1915.
These trees have become enduring symbols of remembrance across Australia as a tribute to the ANZAC spirit.
Mayor Kingston said the planting was a meaningful addition to the Ocean Reef Marina precinct.
“This lone pine will stand as a living memorial to the courage and sacrifice of our servicemen and women,” Mayor Kingston said.
“It’s a powerful reminder of our history and a symbol of peace and hope for future generations.”
Mr Green, who has long championed veterans’ recognition through the Joondalup RSL, said he was honoured to contribute to the new development.
“The centennial lone pine connects us directly to Gallipoli and the legacy of those who served,” he said.
“Planting it here at the Ocean Reef Marina, near the sea and the ANZAC Memorial Arch, is a fitting way to honour their memory.”
As Ocean Reef Marina continues to evolve into a place of connection and recreation, in time the community will be encouraged to visit the memorial and tree to reflect and remember.
