Almost 300 residents officially became Australian citizens at the City of Joondalup’s 2026 Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony, held at the Joondalup Resort, one of the biggest of its kind across the Perth metropolitan area.

269 candidates from 48 countries including the United Kingdom, New Zealand, South Africa, Ireland, India, the United States, Brazil, Iraq, Tonga, Vietnam, Ukraine and Zambia made their citizenship pledge in front of hundreds of families and friends.

The City of Joondalup is one of Western Australia’s most culturally diverse local governments, with around 40 per cent of its 165,000 residents born overseas and hosts 11 citizenship ceremonies each year.

Mayor Daniel Kingston said the event brings the community together to celebrate the City’s diverse cultures and the candidates who have chosen to call Australia home.
