The City of Joondalup has unveiled its ambitious new economic development strategy, Expanding Horizons 2033, at its final Business Forum for 2024 held at Joondalup Resort.

This strategy outlines a visionary roadmap for the city's future, focusing on creating a high-performing City Centre, fostering a globally connected innovation ecosystem, and empowering local businesses and the community.

The forum featured a keynote address by Premier Roger Cook, who spoke to over 200 leaders from industries active in Joondalup, including education, tourism, health, medical, science, innovation, and technology.

Premier Cook highlighted the potential for Western Australia's digital and technology sectors to drive the next economic boom, positioning Joondalup at the forefront of this transformation.

Joondalup is not just preparing for the future, it is actively shaping it and leading the way as a world-class destination,” Premier Cook said.

"Western Australia can evolve beyond the boom-bust cycle to become an innovative and diversified economy, and Joondalup is leading this charge."

Premier Cook emphasised the significance of projects like the Ocean Reef Marina and the Australian Automation and Robotics Precinct, which are set to transform Joondalup into a vibrant hub for tourism, technology, and community growth.

Joondalup Mayor Albert Jacob echoed the Premier’s sentiments and said that the City’s strategic priorities align with the State Government's Diversify WA strategy.

"Our focus on health and medical life sciences, international education, and tourism and events will drive economic growth and create quality jobs," Mayor Jacob said.

Mayor Jacob also highlighted the city's commitment to education and training, ensuring that the future workforce is equipped with the skills needed for innovation and entrepreneurship.

"We will continue to collaborate with State and Federal Governments and industry partners to implement Expanding Horizons 2033 and propel the growth of our strategic industries," he said.

Celebrating 25 years as a city, Joondalup is poised for a future marked by innovation and growth.

"Our skyline will be transformed by tech startups, research labs, and digital enterprises, reflecting our progress and attracting global talent and investment," Mayor Jacob said.

“The City of Joondalup's vision for 2050 is built on strong partnerships and solid plans, promising a world-class lifestyle for its residents and a thriving, resilient economy.”
