Daniel Kingston has been elected Mayor of the City of Joondalup, marking a new chapter for one of Perth’s largest and most dynamic local governments.
Mr Kingston, who was previously Councillor for the North Central Ward from 2021, succeeds Albert Jacob, who chose not to seek a third term after eight years in office.
Mr Kingston will be formally sworn in at a ceremony on Wednesday 22 October and serve a four-year term.
There will be two new members of the Joondalup Council, with Denise Mercer being elected in North Central Ward to replace Mr Kingston, and Matthew Count successful in South West Ward after Christine Hamilton-Prime chose not to re-contest her Ward seat.
Adrian Hill (North Ward), Christopher May (Central Ward), Russ Fishwick (South Ward), and John Chester (South East Ward) successfully retained their positions on the Council.
They rejoin Councillors Lewis Hutton (North), Nige Jones (North Central), Rebecca Pizzey (Central), John Raftis (South), Rohan O’Neill (South East) and Phillip Vinciullo (South West), who were not up for re-election in 2025.
Mr Kingston said he was looking forward to working together for the betterment of the community.
“Joondalup is a great place to call home, and I’m honoured to have the opportunity to serve as Mayor,” Mr Kingston said.
“Over the next four years I’ll focus on what makes our city special, including our beaches, parks, volunteers, place activation and local businesses, while ensuring we continue to deliver transparent government and fair outcomes for every suburb.
“I congratulate the four members of the Council who were successfully re-elected, and welcome Denise and Matthew as new faces on the Council.
“I also extend sincere thanks and appreciation to outgoing Mayor Albert Jacob, and to Christine Hamilton-Prime, for their years of dedicated service and contribution to Joondalup’s growth and prosperity.
“I’m excited to work with the new and continuing members of the Council, and I want to sincerely thank the community for placing their trust in all of us to help build a future we can all be proud of.”
A special meeting of Council will be held following Wednesday’s Swearing-In Ceremony where a new Deputy Mayor will be elected.
