From 16 October - 13 December, we’re bringing the 27th Invitation Art Prize to our brand-new Joondalup Contemporary Art Gallery. Ten acclaimed West Australian artists will unveil fresh, specially commissioned works - one taking home the prestigious $25,000 prize and joining our City’s permanent art collection.

You’ll be among the very first to step inside our new gallery space and explore an exciting mix of contemporary art across print, photography, sculpture, video, installation, and interactive works.

  • Tom Blake presents a site-responsive installation that uncovers hidden gestures and meditations on time, connection, and community.
  • Sam Bloor turns the everyday public phone box into a playful point of connection, inviting strangers to share anonymous phone conversations and reflect on the social value of art.
  • Informed by observations at the airport towards their wheelchair, Bruno Booth draws parallels between aircraft freight labels and their experience of disability, reflecting on society’s use of ‘labels’ and understanding of difference.
  • Erin Coates presents intricate sculptures inspired by family histories and animal encounters, exploring fragility, healing, and ecological entanglement.
  • Sarah Elson’s Vale transforms fallen Marri tree nuts into precious and protective metal castings, creating a veil that reflects grief, resilience, and our delicate relationship with nature and the passing of time.
  • Tim Meakin celebrates the joy of canine companionship through multiple drawings of dogs, hand-engraved on aluminium into a collective and communal dance.
  • Sherry Quiambao explores cultural identity and consumerism through photography and video work with visual precision and depth.
  • In prints made from discarded garage shelving, Andy Quilty repeats a chair motif, meditating on suburban life and collective indifference.
  • Anna Louise Richardson presents striking close-up drawings of introduced flower species across Joondalup and wider Perth, evoking a sense of loss.
  • In The Great Australian Anxiety, Tyrown Waigana transforms ‘bin day’ into art, with humanoid bin sculptures capturing the small drama of neighbourhood life.

The year's program attracted a competitive pool of 142 entries, which were reviewed by an independent selection panel including Abdul Abdullah, Australian multi-disciplinary artist; Carly Lane, Curator Indigenous Art, Art Gallery of Western Australia; and Katherine Wilkinson, Program Director, Fremantle Biennale.

Come and explore Joondalup’s newest cultural space and experience ten exciting new commissions that mark a milestone for our arts community.

The 2025 Invitation Art Prize runs from 16 October - 13 December at the Joondalup Contemporary Art Gallery, located within our Joondalup Library and Civic Centre precinct. We’re open from Thursday to Saturday from 10:00am to 4:00pm, entry is free, and parking is available. The winning artist will be announced on Saturday 11 October, 6pm.

We can’t wait to welcome you to the gallery!
