About 300 people hailing from 45 different countries were granted citizenship at the City of Joondalup’s 2025 Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony on Sunday 26 January.

Held at Joondalup Resort it was one of the biggest ceremonies of its kind across the Perth metropolitan area, bringing the community together to celebrate the City’s diverse cultures.

Candidates born overseas, including from Russia, Bulgaria, China, France, Mexico, Taiwan and Venezuela, who have chosen to call Australia home made their citizenship pledge in front of hundreds of families and friends.

Joondalup Mayor Albert Jacob said the City was no stranger to welcoming new citizens into the Australian family, with 40 per cent of Joondalup’s 165,000 residents born overseas and their unique experiences, talents and perspectives adding to Joondalup’s global reputation as one of the world’s most liveable cities.

And while the City holds 11 citizenship ceremonies each year, Mayor Jacob said there was something special about being granted citizenship on Australia Day.
