National Recycling Week 2025 has just wrapped up and what a week it was!
This year Waste Services launched a digital waste sorting competition with activations across all four libraries, the city website and opportunities to play at both Music in the Park events. The digital game had a whopping 1,227 plays across the week and congratulations to our two lucky community winners, Elizabeth and Cindy.
The game is still available to play at Joondalup Libraries and on our Waste Initiaves page.
The most common incorrectly disposed items within the City are aerosols and polystyrene. Aerosols are being incorrectly placed into bins 38 per cent of the time and polystyrene 59 per cent of the time – both should be taken to Tamala Park, Balcatta Recycling Centre or Wangara Recycling Centre for recycling.
On Tuesday 11 November community members had the opportunity to see first-hand what happens to our recyclables on our tour to one of Perth’s Material Recovery Facilities (MRF), as well as how plastics are recycled by a local processor in Welshpool. Two local schools will be following suit with their own MRF tours across the next two weeks.
The same evening, Annie Raser-Rowland, one of the authors of The Art of Frugal Hedonism held an engaging talk at Joondalup Library. Leaving attendees feeling inspired and empowered to find joy regularly and abundantly without the need to spend money, particularly on new things. The Art of Frugal Hedonism is available for loan via Joondalup libraries.
Our magnet whiteboard meal planners were flying out of the waste activation stall at Music in the Park Heathridge!
