Safer Exchange Point

The Safer Exchange Point is located within a well-lit, high-activity area of the Joondalup City Centre, providing access to several features to support safer exchanges, including:

• 24-hour CCTV coverage 
• Effective lighting
• Nearby public parking 
• Easy access to public transport
• A location close to shops, restaurants, and other public areas

The initiative is supported by WA Police, and aims to provide a safer, community-friendly alternative for people who may not feel comfortable inviting someone they have met online into their home.

While the location has measures designed to support safer exchanges, users should remain vigilant and take appropriate precautions when handling online transactions and meeting people they do not know.

How it works

1. Meet at the Safer Exchange Point: Use the area opposite Central Walk as a public meeting place for your online exchange.
2. Take appropriate safety precautions: Consider your personal safety before, during, and after your exchange.
3. Trust your instincts: If something doesn’t feel right, don’t proceed with the exchange. If you feel unsafe or notice suspicious activity, contact WA Police Force:

• 000 for life-threatening emergencies

• The City of Joondalup does not facilitate, supervise, or participate in transactions or interactions taking place at the location.
• The City of Joondalup accepts no responsibility and is not liable for any transactions, interactions, disputes, damages, losses or other incidents arising from the use of the Safer Exchange Point.
• Users of the City’s Safer Exchange Point are responsible for their personal safety and belongings during exchanges.
• Users are responsible for taking appropriate precautions and making their own assessment of the risks associated with meeting another person.
• The City of Joondalup has exempted persons using this location for online marketplace and private item exchanges from the requirement to obtain a permit under clause 11.3(e) of the Local Government and Public Property Local Law. This exemption applies only to exchanges conducted at this designated location and does not exempt users from complying with any other applicable laws, local laws or parking restrictions.
