The City of Joondalup will soon begin sand bypassing works between Sorrento Beach and Hillarys Beach.
The works involve removing sand from Sorrento Beach and placing it along the Hillarys Beach shoreline. The City has undertaken this work annually since 2018 to help manage sand accretion and erosion associated with the construction of Hillarys Boat Harbour.
The Department of Transport partly funds the project through the Coastal Adaptation and Protection Grant, which supports the City’s Coastal Monitoring Program.
Works are scheduled to commence on Monday 12 October 2026 and are expected to take approximately seven weeks to complete. Construction activities will occur between 7am-5pm, Monday to Friday.
Sections of Sorrento Beach and Hillarys Beach will be closed during the works. Signage will be in place to advise beach users of affected areas.
The City will make every effort to minimise disruption to residents and visitors.
